About Federated Covenant Church

We are members of the Evangelical Covenant Church, a rapidly growing multi-ethnic denomination with ministries on five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the word of God, the gift of God’s grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through a faith with Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God’s love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.

Our essential beliefs are summed up in six Affirmations:
  • We affirm the centrality of the word of God.
  • We affirm the necessity of the new birth.
  • We affirm a commitment to the whole mission of the church.
  • We affirm the church as a fellowship of believers.
  • We affirm a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit.
  • We affirm the reality of freedom in Christ.

Current Ministries
  • We gather weekly for public worship of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
  • Students gather weekly for youth group and Bible study in their newly redesigned and updated youth room! Check out the article from last summer in the Dowagiac Daily News.
  • We send our youth, children, and adults to camp, knowing that this ministry changes lives -- see the article in the Dowagiac Daily News about CHIC2012. And check out Portage Lake Covenant Bible Camp.
  • We believe in working cooperatively with other churches in town and are a member congregation of A.C.T.I.O.N (Area Churches Together In One Network). We believe it is important to partner with area churches. Pastor Jen serves as the vice-president of the A.C.T.I.O.N. board of directors and Pastor Chad serves with the trustees.
  • We support the Salvation Army, which had an office in our building for nearly 30 years, until it recently moved to the A.C.T.I.O.N. Ministry Center. The Salvation Army offers help to people in Cass Country for utilities, housing, and any number of concerns. They are now centrally located at the A.C.T.I.O.N. Ministry Center at 301 Main Street. Here is a recent article.
  • We collect food and clothing donations for A.C.T.I.O.N., and last year we raised money to buy water, wells, and chickens in South Sudan and Ethiopia.
  • We support missionaries serving Christ in Asia and Africa.
  • For two years now we have hosted the Southwestern Michigan College Brass Band for a special Christmas concert.

Ministry Teams
  • Community of Christ: gathering God’s people for visitation and caregiving, social activities, and spiritual formation.
  • Sharing Christ: sharing the Gospel’s good news in word and deed.
  • Worship Planning: identifying, developing, and employing our congregation’s gifts for the worship of God.
